Gaming needs its own Sundance

Ready for a dose of business-related reality to go with your game announcements and games-culture goodness? Then head right over to Dawdle CEO Sachin Agarwal’s brilliant GameDaily piece, in which he argues the need for a place for indie developers to sell their wares to publishers, much like the Sundance film festival.
Agarwal acknowledges the IGF (Independent Games Festival) and PAX’ PAX 10 as good baby steps, but argues that we really need a big event completely dedicated to showing off indie titles, allowing talented developers to be courted by publishers, and fostering “good old-fashioned” bidding wars for deserving gems. This sort of environment will foster greater creativity, originality, and diversity of gameplay in our industry, and it could be that shot in the arm we really need in a sequel-soaked gaming landscape.
Check out the full piece - it’s well worth a read for anyone remotely interested in the creative vitality of the gaming market.

Important Importables
Jenni Lada brings us information about all of the groovy new gaming imports from around the world.

But not the current Sundace which is far too Hollywood-ized with mega advertisers, celebs and other distractions diverting the focus from indie films. PAX is already starting to get a little bit that way and is really meant as a gamers’ gaming even, not a game showcase or game company event.
Don’t forget about Indiecade (http://www.indiecade.com/), an indie game group that showcases indie games and tacks on to various events (including PAX, E for All, etc.) for extra attendance.
