The final installment of the Wallace and Gromit legacy is finally out. Wallace and Gromit: The Bogey Man is the fourth game in the W&G series by Telltale.
In this game you start out as Gromit who must help his owner Wallace out of an accidental marriage proposal by getting him to join a golf club “The Prickly Thickets.” Makes perfect sense, I know. After he gets into the club, It’s up to Wallace to find the deed to the Sticky Thickets gold course or else be shut down by the rather jealous Officer Dibbins.
Definitely Sets the Bar
I had a lot of fun with this one. It had some of the same elements you are use too from the other games like playing as both Gromit and Wallace, and seeing all the old characters again. This time you got mess around in a new location, the Prickly Thickets club house.
The best part about these games is getting to see all the crazy stuff Wallace will get himself into and, of course, seeing Gromit bale him out. For instance, In the beginning of the game you see a newspaper article saying that Wallace proposes to Felicity (his neighbor), when in actuality he was giving her a bolt she dropped which she mistook for a ring. With Wallace, it’s never as simple as saying it was a misunderstanding, instead he must do all sorts of crazy things to get out of it.
If the game gives you one thing, it’s definitely humor. From the crazy things the characters say, to just the things the characters do. You will find yourself using the strangest items together to finish the puzzle, and sometimes it just involves trying something you don’t think makes sense to get the puzzle solved.
The story is good as well and keeps you entertained with the story. I always liked that these games have fairly decent puzzles in them, even if they are bizarre. I think they fixed the graphics in this one as well, I noticed the controller and characters moving a lot more smoothly with less lag.
Don’t Get Tee’d Off Too Soon
One complaint I had was that the loading times on this game were really long. Sometimes they were so long that I thought the game froze. I was unaware if it was the games fault or my computer's.
Also I thought they should have done more with the Felicity/Wallace thing. For the most part Felicity is upset with Wallace because he joined the club, which he great aunt told her was not a good quality in a man, and cried on his coffee table. She spends most of the game on the coffee table crying actually. It would have been nice to see more interaction between the two characters and even some more puzzles related to her. As it is, her part of the game is rather quick.
Also I would have liked to be able to do more in the club house, like play pool (or Snooker as it is in England) play some golf other than just for the storyline, and some other things. You know, maybe as a mini game or even as part of the storyline. You may have noticed from my other articles, but I love a good mini game!
Sorry out of golf jokes!
So our Wallace and Gromit days come to an end but certainly end with a bang. The game delivers its usual fun and humor that we came to love and expect from the series and had a zany storyline to boot.
I would recommend downloading this game on your PC if you are a fan of adventure games or of Telltale games. If you haven’t played any of the games yet, the entire series is also available for $34.95.
