Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People 4: Dangeresque 3 Price: $8.95 (PC), 1000 Wii Points System(s): *PC, WiiWare Release Date: November, 17, 2008 Publisher (Developer): Telltale Games ESRB Rating: “Everyone +10” for comic violence Pros: You get to be a movie star! You can play as Dangeresque, Strong Bad’s action star alter ego. Plus you get to see what horrible actors the characters of Strong Bad are. Cons: Not enough action. I wanted to blow stuff up but it just didn’t happen. Overall Score:Two thumbs up; 98/100; A; * * * * 1/2 out of five.
Strong Bad 4: Dangeresque 3 much different than the other games in the Strong Bad series. In this game, Strong Bad has just created the third installment of his action movie, titled Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective (which is something fans of the Homestar Runner series have been begging for). All of Strong Bad’s friends come over for the viewing of then new movie and the actual game play is the results of that movie.
You Mean Dangeresque
You play as Dangeresque (Strong Bad) who with the help of his sidekick Renaldo (Coach Z) has to help out the damsel in distress Cutsie Buttons (Marzipan, of course), while also looking awesome and gaining huge sacks of cash. Typical action movie type stuff, only ten times better because it’s Strong Bad. Oh, and the rest of the crew is in the movie, too.
This episode has a completely different feel to it, seeing as you are really an action star in a movie. Instead of going from place to place looking for whatever you need, you are progressing through a movie. You still need to go from place to place but it is more organized.
Because this is a movie, you get to deal with all the movie clichés: bad sets (that are sometimes left there the entire movie because nobody moved them), and terrible acting, especially from Homestar. Actors will occasionally flub a line or break character to complain about something stupid Strong Bad is making them do, which you see quickly edited later. For example, Coach Z will consistently break character to point out how lame an upcoming action will be and their will be a “cut” to him suddenly in character agreeing and going along with it. This all makes the game that much more hilarious.
It’s also fun to see the obvious use of stunt doubles, like Strong Sad wearing a Strong Mad mask and being pushed off a building. The game still follows the two-objective theme. First you have to find this magical potion that will save the rain forest, by Cutsie Buttons’ request, then after you find it, well, I don’t want to spoil it.
Eh, No Dice
For once, I don’t have that much to complain about.
Because this is suppose to be a special episode, they got rid of most of the normal stuff you are use too. You can still play Strong Bad’s video game machine, and I have to admit the game is actually pretty fun but they got rid of all other modes of mini-game, such as Teen Girl Squad. You also can’t search for items until almost the end of the game, when you finally find the metal detector which has been inexplicably taken and hidden in a cave.
I thought the game, since it is an action movie, should have more interactive scenes in it. Diffusing bombs, jumping from planes, shooting at Homestar, something like that. They have a helicopter set but you don’t even get to pilot it.
Oh, and even though you have an awesome weapon, the nun chuck gun, you don’t get to use it nearly enough. I wanted to shoot things.
Looks Like We’re Going to Have to Jump
This episode is the best in the series so far. I really had fun playing especially since I am a fan of Homestar and am familiar with Strong Bad’s Dangeresque series.
I love the idea that you are not playing as Strong Bad but as Dangeresque, so interacting with characters you get a whole new experience. Also, it reminds you of your failed attempt to make a movie with your mom’s video camera when you were younger (or yesterday).
Even if you didn’t like any of the other Strong Bad games, you will like this one. If only their were more jumping out of airplane scenes. And just wait till you see who they cast as Strong Bad’s father.
And as far as the next episode, I just have one word for you: Trogdor.
