A local store - Village Mall Video in Webster, NY (USA) - has already promised to sell Tron Deadly Discs for Atari at a discounted $28.29 instead of the usual $34.95 (those Village Mall guys are the radist guys ever.) The game should be coming out May 1982 for the Intellevision game system and for the Atari 2600 VCS. It is being put out for some systems by Mattel Electronics’ new label, M Network.
They tell me that it will be a single-player game and use all of the directions on the joystick. Tron will need to de-rez countless computer-controlled attackers and deflect their deadly discs with his. Ouch! The Atari’s difficulty switch can also be used to pump up the game and make it run faster, but it sounds like it will be hard enough as it is.
As many of you have already noticed, the Tron arcade cabinets by Midway are already appearing in arcade across the US. The movie hasn’t even come out yet and I’m, like, totally excited for it now! The only bummer is that they guys at the store heard the light motorcycle level won’t be in Deadly Discs. The good news is that they are increasing production of Deadly Discs from 250,000 to 800,000, so there should be plenty of cartridges to go around.
