Sure, you might be sick of WWII shooters by now but Akella has taken a different course with PT Boats: Knights of the Sea. Produced in cooperation with Nvdia, this game is a naval action simulator where you captain various water vessels in WWII-based sea battles.

The games three modes will allow gamers to play through as either a typical RTS game, a tactical action game or a naval sim, battling against planes, PT boats, destroyers and minesweepers (to name a few). The game will run on PCs with DirectX 9 or 10.

I received an email from Akella that gave the following description of the game, a hint as to its development along with several exclusive screenshots not available on the game’s site:

Most of the game missions are of historical character. The campaign starts on the Baltic Sea where the Finnish forces tried to invade one of the chief naval bases of the Baltic fleet - Hanko.  Having passed through several missions on the Baltic sea due to the end of the shipping season and Siege of Leningrad a gamer will be taken to the Northern Fleet.

... The idea of various craft used in the game concept changed in the course of the game development. We added more items to our air and naval parks, their graphical appearance also changed over time. There are screens that illustrate what we had in the beginning and what has been developed so far.

Interestingly, Akella’s PR Executive was unable to attend E3 2007 due to a Visa problem. Apparently the Russian Embassy got the dates confused.
