Jenni Lada brings us information about all of the groovy new gaming imports from around the world.

Pysko Audio Labs new innovative headset, the Pskyo 5.1 Headphones, competed against 13 other companies to include Audiovox and Plantronics for the title which was awarded January 11, 2009, on the CNET Live Stage at the Sands Expo and Convention Center at The Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA).
I had a chance to speak with James Hildebrandt, Head Psyko at Psyko Audio Labs Inc., and asked whether or not receiving the award sets a new standard for Psyko’s future products.
“Lucy, we are up to the challenge but consider this. the Consumer Electronics Show is the largest show of its type in the world and we won the Innovations Design and Engineering award for headphones on our first product. We are a start-up company and beat out every other headphone maker including all the established names in the business,” Hildebrandt explained.
“In the last couple of days we were named as one of the three finalists in the CNET CES Best of Show Products in gaming along with a Wii product and an nVidia product, again beating out every other headphone company at the show. This is your classic David and Goliath story. That is an amazing standard to maintain. Stay tuned for more from Psyko Audio.”
“We are focused on delivering headphones that give gamers a richer audio experience and the precision sound directionality that can improve their reaction time and game performance,” Hildebrandt said. “Our current product is for the PC gamer and we will be working on expanding that to other platforms.”
While reading the specifications of the headset, I must say its very impressive because the speaker is not placed in the ear cups. Instead, the sound is delivered through five speakers located in the headband and bridge, distributed through the wave guides.
According to the video, the sound is distributed to the ear cups to provide a natural surround sound experience. The waveguides directs all the front sounds to flow past the front of your ears and all the rear sounds to flow past the rear of your ears, similar to the way sounds interact with your ears in a room system.
“Every speaker is in a precise location to create the correct timing and volume differences to both ears just like sounds in a room around you,” Hildebrandt explains in the video.
The Psyko 5.1 headphones will be available in limited quantities for both Mac and PC systems during first half of 2009 for $299.
