Gamertell Exclusive: Francisco Diaz on TitanStrike and Miss Video Game 2008 tourney

by Lucy Newman on Mar 13, 2008 at 02:32 PM

TitanStrike to host this years miss video game eventTitanstrike online is proud to host this year’s Miss Video Game 2008 (MVG 2008) online tournament.

I recently caught up with Francisco Diaz the co-founder of TitanStrike to find out what it is about all about.

“Titanstrike, a platform for gamers that seeks to blend the best of social networking with cutting edge gaming services including a tournament engine that allows sponsors to create and manage events,” Diaz explained. “The Titanstrike platform also has flash forums, gamer profiles and instant chat to power interaction within the community. The goal of Titanstrike is to provide an ideal environment for online competitions so the Miss Video Game event was a natural fit. As founders of Miss Video Game and Titanstrike we felt that women were under-represented in the video game industry and that an event geared towards increasing awareness of the vast number and talent of females who game would be a positive step. Miss Video Game allows us to showcase female gamers using a unique competition and community platform.”

Not more than five minutes after registering and I had a profile I’m proud of and already made a few friends on the site. It was pretty simple to register and to use. Now I’m ready to find out more about MVG 2008 as I may even participate. So I asked Diaz about the upcoming event and what can we expect to see or experience when it begins.

He gave a quick recap of last year’s event and it was impressive.

“Last year’s event started with an open call for applications on September 14, 2006. Over 500 applications came in from all over the world. The applications included photos, video, description of their gaming habits and why they should be Miss Video Game 2007. MVG received over 10,000 unique votes and selected the top 50 most voted applicants in early 2007 to compete in the online tournament. Now it was time for the competitors to show off their skill. The 50 competitors dueled in an online tournament in October 2007 that was conducted on Titanstrike using Counterstrike 1.6. The top three finalists [Lauren (L337Lauren) Berggren, Tiffany (liPStiCK) Greene, Héléne (LadyLara) Bronnec] from the online tournament secured spots for the finals in Montreal, Canada from November 9-11, 2007,” he explained. “A panel of judges, including Alissa Bell, Public Relations Manager at Atari, selected Adelle (Lanen) Moore and Yvonna (Coochie Dimes) Lynn as the two wild card entries based on essay submissions. During the competition our competitors bonded a lot, and we decided to build a community platform at MissVideoGame.com in order to keep the camaraderie of the event alive past the finals.

“We’ve been very happy to see the MVG community grow over the past year and are exited about this year’s event. This year’s MVG will be bigger and better. We are still finalizing the theme and structure of the event and details/sponsors will be announced soon. It will follow a similar format to last year with a large online tournament with a live finals competition.”

Diaz said Titanstrike is unique and challenges Gamertell readers to come visit and see for themselves.

“Titanstrike is an online world unlike any other,” said Diaz. “You truly have to experience it for yourself to understand. We’ve built the entire interface in flash so that chats, the shoutbox, the forums and internal messages all work in real time - no more sitting at your computer refreshing a screen all night. Right now we’re testing the very core of our software and we’re happy with the active role our community is taking to shape our direction. Now that we’re happy with the site’s performance we’re starting to release modules that we’ve developed including the shout box, and coming soon you will see clan matches, the tournament system and an interface for drop-in matches for CS Source, TF2 and COD 4. We’ve got a great community and your users can expect to meet a ton of fun people to game with and fun events/tournaments to compete in. We’re looking forward to the coming months and hope that your readers will want to get in on the action.”
