Gamerhelp lists the 10 most inept game villains

by Jenni Lada on Jan 31, 2008 at 07:30 PM

Mother Brain

Gamerhelp recently released a list of the ten most pathetic video game villains. These are the guys who are so pitiful, they return game after game in an attempt to finally get things right. They never do though. Its a shame really. The list compiled includes: Bowser (Super Mario), Dr. Willy (Mega Man), Diablo (Diablo), Ganon (Legend of Zelda), Donkey Kong (Donkey Kong), Sephiroth (FFVII), Pacman ghosts, James Bond villains, Dracula (Castlevania) and Mother Brain (Metroid). Most of them are dead on.

I do disagree with the whole Sephiroth theory. I mean after all, he’s the standard for Final Fantasy evil. There’s also a darn good reason why he couldn’t just take out the whole team right away. I’m sure there is. Or if there is, it is a spoiler and shouldn’t be mentioned aloud.

If anything, Ultimecia from FFVIII should be there in place of Sephiroth. She remains in hiding the whole game, using the bodies of other potential sorceresses to do her dirty work. Plus her speech impediment ruins the whole menacing villain facade.

Dark Force, from the early Phantasy Star series, deserved a nod as well. Here there’s a whole Dark Force, which is supposed to have godlike power and be some sort of huge cloud influence of evil, and yet it gets beaten down over and over again. Not scary at all.

King Dedede, recurring villain from the Kirby games, can’t be forgotten as well. I mean he’s a giant blue duck with a mallet! An obese blue duck is the furthest thing from terrifying and awe-inspiring in my mind. Put up a “Duck Season” sign and send Elmer Fudd out there to take care of business.
