Game-themed events help expand Sony’s Home throughout February 2009
If you have a Playstation 3 and have yet to register or explore Sony’s Home , this is the month to do so.
Since Sony’s Home it opened its doors, I’ve been exploring the different things you can do in home besides shopping, chatting with friends and hanging out at the bowling alley arcades (for all the freebies you can unlock playing Ice Breaker, Carriage Return and Echochrome, of course).
Several events have already been started in celebration of Street Fighter IV, Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5, Warhawk and SOCOM.
For Killzone 2, for example, finding a hidden soldier and chatting with him will earn you lots of in-Home freebies. He’s hard to find and hopefully with the new leads I have I’ll find him yet.
Today (February 12, 2009), Home is launching the Street Fighter IV-themed world along with it ninja-themed clothing at the mall and an “I Love Ninjas” costume contest to take place in the new Gamer’s Lounge. Winners of the Ninja costume contest may win vouchers for the upcoming SOCOM and Warhawk games. Not much is known about the Street Fighter IV Home world at the moment other than the contest.
Another big event to take place soon will be the new Resident Evil 5 Home world, where Resident Evil fans can enjoy the some unlockables and be able to launch straight from PlayStation Home into the Resident Evil 5 game according to the PlayStation Network Home community manager’s blog.
Coming soon, according to the Sony blog, is the Warhawk Home world that will also allow players to launch into the game and SOCOM will be the SOCOM‘s Home world which will also start in the Gamer’s Lounge. There, players can hang-out to mix and mingle with other players and talk to special guests such as the developers during the special promotion event.
The worlds currently accessible to all Home residents include Sully’s Bar from Far Cry 2, the train station and depot area from Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and the air races at Red Bull Island. Each world except Red Bull Island includes a themed arcade game. While on Red Bull Island players can fly their airplanes through an obstacle course to compete with each other for the fastest. The fastest time is recorded on the leaderboard near the aircrafts. Just be careful not to touch the goal posts as you fly through or lose control of your airplane or get a penalty.
Well, I’m off to fill my PSN account to buy some ninja gear for the contest. If you haven’t registered on the PlayStation Network yet or take the time to visit and explore Home. Now’s a great time to join. See you there.

I’m pissed off that there is so much discrimination in the Home stores. When they tell you they’re giving new clothing options, female avatars barely get anything new. The Diesel store is absolutely terrible. So this ninja gear? I totally expect not to be able to get it for my female avatar. I hope I’ll be pleasantly surprised when I log in tonight.
on February 12, 2009 at 10:00 PM - LINKYeah, that was one of the issues brought up during the meeting with the developers last night. They’re going to be working on it along with other issues and requests people made during the meeting.
As far as the ninja outfit, they look great except I would have loved to have a katana for my outfit like the guys do. Other things brought up during the meeting is having mini games or private arcades in our clubs or apartments. They mentioned even having a trophy room for all the trophies we earned playing games in our apartments plus more apartment choices in the near future.
There’s alot that will be happening soon and I will try to get it posted as soon as I get word back from the developers on other questions I’ve asked.
Features asked for by everyone (including myself) in the meeting include having a virtual pet, more diverse fashions, promotions, in-HOME game launching, costumes, hairstyles, etc. The question about HOME still being free was asked and the reply was: “Of course. We’re not Microsoft.”
If you haven’t visited the Gamer’s Lounge yet, do so. The developer’s will be in and out of there throughout the week to answer questions or just post your question on the blog and one of them will answer you.
Oh! By the way! I found the Killzone soldier. He’s hiding in the Gamer’s Lounge. Look for him to get details on how to get your own Killzone uniform. :)
on February 13, 2009 at 10:29 AM - LINKDoes the Killzone uniform come with extra perks or is it just a cool avatar costume?
on February 14, 2009 at 08:49 PM - LINKNot sure at the moment. I think its just the ISA Soldier and Helghast Assault Trooper uniforms for now, I’ve heard people on HOME mention things for your apartment and stuff. All I know is this. It’s a special promotion and if you order your copy of Killzone 2 with Amazon.com here: http://www.amazon.com/Killzone-2-Playstation-3/dp/B000FQBF1M
According to some of the rumors floating in HOME you can get physical stuff from playing the game and any code you find redeem on the Killzone website for propoganda posters and even a paper puzzle if you put together make items from inside the game. I’ll keep investingating from inside HOME to find out more.

on February 20, 2009 at 02:36 AM - LINKGreat! Glad you like it. Did you get your unlockables for HOME yet? I still have to purchase my copy. Then again. I’m torn at the moment between Killzone 2 and Street Fighter 4. There’s tons of unlockables on Street Fighter 4. Stay tuned for details and I’ll tell you what it is okay? I know a few of my friends won t-shirts and stuff for HOME as a prize.
on February 20, 2009 at 09:32 AM - LINKDo the SFIV Home unlockables expire? I’m not planning on getting SFIV immediately after launch, ... Budget constraints. :-(
on February 20, 2009 at 11:24 AM - LINKBrinstar,
As far as i know the t-shirts are standard prizes you can get competing on line with other gamers, there are unlockable character outfits (rumor) I’m told but have yet to see the proof on that. I’m contacting CAPCOM and the PlayStation Home team to find out more about this for the next article. So stay tuned.
I hear ya on budget constraints. I’m in the same boat this year. But from what my friends (who have the game and now struttin around HOME in their SF-themed gear) its a standard unlockable that you get when you earn so many points. I’ll let you know as soon as I find it, okay? See you around on HOME.
