Game designer Mark Darin blabs about Strong Bad

by Jessica Moen on Aug 11, 2008 at 09:11 AM

strong bad at homeMark Darin, one of the graphic designers for the newStrong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People was available for an interview at the Telltale Games booth at Comic-Con 08, where he was thrilled to talk about the game and share some new information.

Strong Bad will be a full out adventure game, with extra goodies and side stuff.” Said Darin when asked about the game. Darin indicated that the sense of humor fans enjoyed in Homestar Runner will continue in Strong Bad. Each episode will be supplemented with a rich and realistic storyline (realistic for Homestar, anyway). Expect to have fun with the game as well as laugh, “These episodes will be very much based on the storylines, the humor of it will be an added bonus.” Says Darin.

Darin assured the players that, like the Homestar Runner cartoons, this game will also be full of easter eggs and other hidden surprises. “When you beat the episode, you can continue to play and find all of the hidden stuff in the game, you can also look for it during game play.”

Darin went on to explain that the player controls the tone of any conversation. You can choose to compliment characters or insult them, which of course will effect that characters reaction. He also indicated there will only be one ending for the game, so you are free to play as you want without worry of affecting the outcome.

Darin also said this game will be as much fun to watch as it is to play, “I know sometimes friends just like to sit and watch, well this is definitely one of those games.”

I asked Darin to tell us about some of the goodies in the game, one thing he mentioned was having access to Strong Bad’s computer (a WiiWare exclusive) and the ability to send out Strong Bad-type emails and screen shots of the game to your friends Wii systems. Players can also create their own Teen Girl Squad comic from Strong Bad’s computer.

Darin told me that he is very excited about this upcoming series. “Being a fan of the Homestar Runner series, working on this game is a dream come true!”  Each episode will be issued monthly, with a total of five episodes. When asked if Telltale games plans to produce any more than the five episodes, Darin replied, “If the game does well enough, there is always a chance. I personally would love to make more”

Based on what Darin told me, this game should be fun for any fan of the Homestar Runner.  And if you’ve never visited the Homestar Runner website, check it out and see for yourself.
