mass effect the bring down the skyWithout a doubt 2007 was the best year in gaming history, and Bioware’s Mass Effect, which redefined the way we think about RPG and story telling in games would go on to sell more than 1.6 million units. Only three months after the Xbox 360 game was released, Bioware and Microsoft have announced the first set of Mass Effect downloadable content.

The package, called “Bring Down the Sky,” is set to be released on March 10, 2008, at 2 A.M. PST for 400 Microsoft Points (US $5). This is the first original content download planned for the series.

“Bring Down the Sky” will introduce a new, uncharted system as well as the Batavians, a new alien race. The story this time around pits the Alliance against an extremist group who has hijacked an asteroid station in the Asgard system and set it on a collision course with the colony world of Terran Nova. Once again the central character will be Commander Shepard who is sent to save tens of thousands of innocent civilians.

The story and game play is estimated to last somewhere around 90 minutes and will also add 50 new Xbox Achievement points for players to unlock.
