First expansion avaialble for Team Fortress 2

by Christopher Buckner on Jan 26, 2008 at 06:49 PM

team fortress 2By far one of the best and most addictive online multiplayer games out there is, Team Fortress 2. Released by Valve Software last year as part of the hugely successful Orange Box, Team Fortress 2 had been in development for nearly ten years.

Even with that much development behind it, the cartoon-style FPS still didn’t come out swinging when it was released. With only a handful of maps and game types, plus a number of bugs, some might have complained that there wasn’t enough to support a growing fan following. Thankfully, Valve has finally released the first series of expansions for the game (January 24, 2008).

Besides fixing a few bugs, the expansion includes a new map and a capture the flag version of Well, auto-save scoreboards and a tweaked version of Gravel Pit that’s been altered to get rid of exploits.

So far, these updates are only for the PC through Valve’s Steam downloads. No word yet on when Xbox 360 or PS3 fans will get their updates.

Here’s a full list of improvements and additions:

  • Added new capture the flag map, The Well
  • Added Spanish map descriptions
  • Added new option to auto-save a scoreboard screenshot at the end of a map to the Multiplayer.
  • Added more particle optimizations for mid range and low end hardware
  • Updated Gravel Pit to fix all known exploits and changed the scoring method to score per capture rather than per round
  • Updated “nextlevel” CVAR to trigger a change level at the end of the current round (not mini-round)
  • Fixed Source TV demo recording problem
  • Fixed map stalemate. Enable not preventing Sudden Death mode on some maps
  • Fixed a couple cases where player stats were not being recorded correctly
  • Fixed some log entries being truncated
  • Fixed crash caused by trying to import a custom player spray
  • Removed the “Reset Stats” button from the Player Stats screen
