Final Fantasy XIII release rumors debunked

by Jenni Lada on Jan 30, 2008 at 07:00 PM

Not coming at you - at least not yet.

Square Enix released an official press release today (January 30, 2008) stating that all rumored Final Fantasy XIII release dates speculated on by the press are false. The statement is vague, addressing “certain video game websites” rather than naming names, The company also makes it very clear that when they have determined the release date, it will be released in an official press release. Originally Final Fantasy XIII was expected to be released in Japan at the end of 2007, but that obviously didn’t happen. Instead the date is still TBA for all regions.

Various video game websites all have their own speculations as to when FFXIII will be released. IGN still has information giving a December 31, 2007 release date the Japanese version. Final Fantasy Insider also still shows 2007? as the Japanese release date. The most specific (and recent) listing is 1up.com’s optimistic May 15, 2008 release date. One common tie among almost all sites is that the North American and European releases are left as TBA or N/A.

The vagueness of Square Enix’s announcement can leave a lot of doubt in the minds of fans. Perhaps hopes of purchasing and playing FFXIII before 2009 are a fantasy. It would be nice to see something before the end of 2008. It also makes you wonder what the holdup is. Personally, I think everything is being bogged down by their plan to release three FFXIII games. Lets focus on getting one title out before working on spin-offs.
