Yesterday (February 18, 2008), Fallout 3‘s executive producer, Todd Howard, assured both Joystiq and anxious Playstation 3 owners that the PC, XBox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will all ship at exactly the same time. Bethesda’s previous RPG, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, debuted simultaneously only for the PC and 360 in March 2006, leaving PS3 owners to wait an entire year for their port to hit stores. Fallout 3 is due to hit the three platforms Q3 2008.
Since starting up development on the latest chapter of the celebrated RPG series, Bethesda has needed to prove that they would carry on the franchise’s quality and trademark sense of humor. This is especially true since the earliest media of the game made it look more like extra sci-fi edition of Oblivion than anything Fallout‘s original developer, Black Isle Studios, would’ve come up with. Thankfully, with the release of the first teaser trailer, tensions have become significantly lower since. It also doesn’t hurt that Bethesda isn’t trying to go for the “epic” motif this time around as Fallout 3 will be noticeably smaller than Oblivion.
It’s starting to look up, at least for a game that’s still around half a year down the pipeline.
