Fable II teased at E3 2008

Fable II

One of the must-see titles coming out of this year's E3 (2008) is the sequel to the original Xbox action RPG Fable II. Fable II will be released October 2008 exclusively for the Xbox 360.

Fable II allows the player to make decisions that seriously impact how the in-game world perceives the player’s character. You can choose to be an average citizen complete with a family, or become an epic hero (or villain) in the land of Albion.

Fable II takes place more than 500 years after the original. After creating a character, you’re free to roam about and get into as much trouble as you see fit. You’ll also get a friend to help you throughout the game. Your dog will be the only character that will stick by you no matter what. It will protect you when you’re in certain danger, show you the direction of new objectives, and provide the feeling of non stop loyalty and companionship. All it asks for in return is a little food every now and then. Let’s hope you don’t choose to be so evil you’ll let the dog starve. Even Dr. Claw had a cat.

Fable II‘s combat system is very unique to say the least. The game is built around the idea of single-button combat. It may seem simplistic but it can be very deep. Some RPGs have you create a class of character that excels in certain abilities throughout the game. Fable II wraps all the classes into one character. There are three different fighting styles to master. You can be a melee brawler that favors swords and maces, a mage or a ranged weapons expert. Each one of these styles can be switched to at any time to provide an immersive combat experience. If at any moment your character becomes overwhelmed and falls (read: dies), the game doesn’t end. You’ll lose a certain amount of experience points that will cause the character to rise again and continue on.

Fable II also features online multiplayer. You can drop into a friends world on the fly using Xbox Live. You can go on quests together and carry back anything you might have obtained back into the single player mode. Fable II uses an item call Albion Orbs that lets you know where other players are in their game. This acts as a guide to deciding whose game you may like to join in on.

Pub Games acts as a casino (and is now available on Xbox LiveArcade). It features mini games named Keystone, Spinnerbox and Fortune’s Tower. Any gold you earn from playing the three mini games can be transferred to the main game. That gold can then be used to purchase homes, dungeons, and castles in the game. Basically if you can see it, you can own it.
