David Reeves, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) recently told Games Industry that game development for the PSP is a bit like a circus.
Only a few new games have found their way to the PSP system including Jeanne d’Arc, Dungeons and Dragons Tactics, Alien Syndrome and soon God of War. It’s a good try, but I would like a bigger variety of games to play.
Don’t get me wrong - I love my PSP.
In fact, I keep it continually charged and ready for action. I play with it while waiting for my laundry at the laundromat, waiting around with the rest of the media for a story event or sitting in a doctor’s office for a check up. I love my PSP. The only problem with it is the lack of games.
My friends and I all have a diverse collection of gaming systems, but it does get old when you’re still playing Final Fantasy 1 when everyone else has blasted you out of the water with their newest and greatest Nintendo DS title. But being a fan of the Playstation platform, continue to hold on to the hope of bigger and better games for my precious PSP.
But seriously, what do the makers of PSP have to say about this? I mean, the remakes of old classic games are fine, but I’m also a big Final Fantasy fanatic and will always buy the game even if I already have like 10 copies of it. But, what I really want is a game that I can play that will have my Nintendo-owning friends jealous as I play my new awe-inspiring PSP game instead of me being jealous trying to borrow their Nintendo DS.
It’s bad enough that I stood in line for hours for my PSP. We were willing to overlook the lack in games hoping the situation would soon change. I even worried about missing new games when my PSP stolen. Even though Sony kindly replaced it, my worry was for nothing - there were simply no new games to enjoy. Only a newer Metal Gear game to help kill some time while I wait for something better. I guess we should wait and hope more PSP titles will appear before Christmas.
