Begorrah! North American and European Animal Crossing: City Folk players get official DLC
The North American and European Animal Crossing: CIty Folk free downloadable content famine is over! Nintendo has decided that the best way for AC:CF players to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is to dole out free Shamrock Hats to all.
It’s incredibly easy to obtain your own Shamrock Hat. First, connect your Wii to the internet. It’s a fairly easy process - just have your WiFi connection’s security code handy and start the connection wizard under the internet section of the Wii Settings menu. Then, set WiiConnect24 to on for your system. Finally, log in as your character between March 17 and 30, 2009. Pete the mailman will be waiting your character’s front door with a very special letter from Nintendo!
There’s only one Shamrock Hat per character, so don’t expect Pete to come around multiple times with a freebie. It is catalog orderable - you can pick up a spare at your local Nook’s for around 1,520 bells. My character’s currently a Silver Member at Nooks, so bear in mind that a discount is in effect and the price for buyers without a Nooks discount will be slightly higher.
Of course, Japan is still Nintendo’s golden child when it comes to Animal Crossing: City Folk downloadable content releases. As previously reported, a Red Pikmin hat and a toy top decoration both were released to Japanese AC:CF players. Since then, two new items have been made available, a Girl’s Day updo wig for Hinamatsuri and a tokonoma alcove.
So, while your Wii’s online, might as well visit some friends and see if they can share the new Japanese AC:CF DLC as well. Both of the Japanese DLC items are catalog orderable as well, with the tokonoma costing around 2,185 bells and the Girl’s Day updo costing around 1,265. (Note: Again, bear in mind the discount mentioned earlier.)
Now that Nintendo’s officially begun downloadable content distribution, we’ll hopefully start seeing some more releases. What kind of items do you think your game needs? Personally, I’m hoping for a Mr. Saturn statue (Mother/Earthbound). A stuffed Pikachu would be nice too - and a good way to promote Pokemon Platinum! Hint hint Nintendo!

I hope there’s more DLC for North America soon. I’m not thrilled about this hat. Not my character’s style. :-P
on March 19, 2009 at 01:02 AM - LINKI know exactly what you mean. It’s cute and a nice gesture, but there could have been something spiffier or grander. (No, I’m not secretly sad that it wasn’t a stuffed pikachu.)
The Japanese DLC is nice. I really like the Girl’s Day updo, and I’m thinking of redoing my Japanese style basement to match the tokonoma. I just got the tea room wall and the color matches perfectly. But then I’d have to take out the outdoor bath and hearth. Then again, maybe I should focus on trying to make my main living room/kitchen first floor perfect instead. Ah - decisions.
