EA, Massive Inc. agree to even more in-game ads

by Christopher Buckner on Mar 20, 2008 at 10:55 AM

ea games massive incIf there is a dollar to be made you can count on EA Games, the largest third-party developer and publisher in the world, will be first in line to take advantage of a new cash opportunity.

EA and Massive Inc, a subsidiary advertising company that is owned by Microsoft, have signed a two-year extension for all in-game advertising within EA games. This extension of the deal will continue to insure that EA remains a leading force for in-game advertisement for a number of its most popular games, including EA Sports’ Madden NFL, NBA Live, NASCAR Racing and NHL Hockey as well as a number of racing titles including the Need for Speed and Burnout franchises.

This is all-in effort for EA to ensure that its games find cash from outside unit sales and bring a more natural and believable world to gamers. As Massive Inc. is one of the world’s leading advertisement agencies, the deal is hoped to open more lucrative advertisement prospects that they might not have had access to prior and maybe soon, even rival TV when it comes to advertising

There are still some fears from gamers that video games can run the risk of being bloated with unnecessary or unwanted advertisement that has already overcrowded both TV and the Internet. With rising cost in game development, EA is only one of many publishers and developers that might be looking towards in-game advertisement to reduce production costs.

  • 5-10 years ago, no one thought that in game advertising would help video game developers with production costs. Now it is becoming a reality. And the thoughts to rival TV advertising? It was unheard of. Now with the popularity of video gaming, coupled with online systems, in game advertising is more lucrative than ever. The ads are readily interchangeable, and with time, and the collection of individual data, ads can be geared towards one user’s likes and perferences. Massive Inc provides EA with security in the in game advertising industry and the alliance should be a great force in years to come.
