Get ready to see Jason Bourne games from EA. The company has just finished talks with Ludlum Entertainment and walked away with the right to make video games based on Robert Ludlum novels. As you may recall, he wrote the The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, which inspired the movies starring Matt Damon.
So far one game has been announced as a result of this deal, though we don’t know all that much about yet. It will be a Bourne game, and it is being developed by Starbreeze Studios. A title hasn’t been released, and it is unknown if the game will follow the plot of any of the books or movies. All we know is that Jason Bourne will be the star.
Previously, one other Bourne game has been released. High Moon Studios and Sierra Entertainment created Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy for the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in June, 2008.
While Ludlum’s Bourne series is sure to receive lots of love from EA, there are some other thriller series he’s written or worked on that could make good games. For example, the Covert-One series is a good option, except EA’s probably have to get permission from co-authors of the eight books in that series. The Chancellor Manuscript or The Matarese Circle, which are both being made into movies, could be potential game fodder as well - but in order to stay true to the books they’d have to be thriller/adventure games.
