Despite the questionable responses to games in the Need for Speed franchise, EA still has enough faith in the series to continue developing for it, announcing that four more games will be released for this iteration of handheld and console platforms.
The fact that the company is even working on these games is positive news considering the rough economic situation that EA is in at the moment.
According to 1UP and Eurogamer, the four new Need for Speed games that are in development are being helmed by Slightly Mad Studios, EA Montreal and Black Box.
The first game, Need for Speed: Shift, is expected to make its debut on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Sony’s Playstation Portable, while Need for Speed: Nitro will see release on the Wii and DS. Finally, Need for Speed: World Online will make its debut on Asian personal computers in the summer before appearing stateside later in the year. That specific project will be helmed by EA’s online studio in Singapore.
As for the mysterious fourth Need for Speed game, the details are scarce. According to EA marketing vice president Keith Munro, the game is a secret.
Four Need for Speed games sounds like a lot, especially considering that there are gamers who, like myself, have tired of the series and have moved on to more satisfying fare, such as what is being offered in the Burnout stable.
