E3 2009: Nintendo offers (little) info about its Media Briefing

by PJ Hruschak on May 28, 2009 at 07:24 PM

ninendo logoNintendo sent out a press release today (May 28, 2009) with scant details concerning its upcoming press conference taking place at 9 a.m. (PT), June 2, 2009, at Club NOKIA in Los Angeles, CA (which we will be Live Blogging).

The most significant part is that three speakers were revealed:

  • Mr. Satoru Iwata, Nintendo Co., Ltd., global president
  • Mr. Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president and chief operating officer
  • Ms. Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America executive vice president of Sales & Marketing

It did not include any game titles or other specifics but did have this rather generic description of what will take place at the press conference:

Consumers responded to Nintendo this year, as evidenced by continued growth of the Wii home video game system, record-breaking sales of the Nintendo DS portable franchise and the introduction of the newest hand-held iteration, the Nintendo DSi system. Nintendo will provide information about upcoming products at its media briefing, which kicks off the year’s biggest video game event, the E3 Expo.

I did notice that, on Nintendo’s media registration page for the press conference, the image (below) shows only the Wii and DSi (actually two DSis), which is a strong indication of Nintendo’s future focus on those systems.
