An expected game was announced at E3 2009, Konami’s Pop’n Music. For a long time the music game has been a staple in Japanese gaming, appearing on game consoles and in arcades. It’s only now, for the first time, that the series will be appearing in the US in Pop’n Music for the Wii. At the moment, it has a tentative Fall 2009 release date. ‘
It’s easy to get started playing Pop’n Music. First, you pick a character to represent you, which is either an established character, your Mii or a customized character. There are 14 included characters to choose from. Then, you pick one of six stages to perform on and a song to play through. Once that’s done, you play through the song, using the Wii remote and nunchuk to represent your hands and moving them up, down, left and right when the indicators appear on screen.
The game will also offer multiplayer options. You can work together with a friend to complete a song challenge, or face off against each other to see who’s rhythmic timing is better.
Konami also mentions on the Pop’n Music site that there will be Nintendo Wi-Fi connection support. You can download new songs off of the internet.
I’m definitely excited! I’ve always wanted to try the Pop’n Music series, and now, thanks to Konami, I’ll have the chance.
