E3 2009: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is lurking about

Castlevania Lords of Shadow

The GamesPress game listing was correct, a new PS3 and Xbox 360 Castlevania game is in the works. Konami just wanted to use E3 2009 as the platform to announce Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, being developed by Mercury Steam and Kojima Productions Studio. And it’s true, it will be out in 2010.

It wasn’t much of a secret though. Konami previously debuted Castlevania: Lords of Shadow as Lords of Shadow back in 2008. That was only a teaser though, and now Konami’s revealed the whole storyline of the game and a debut trailer.

Let’s look at that trailer now! It has Patrick Stewart narrating it, and looks more like a movie trailer than a game trailer:

The world is ending, in part because the Lords of Shadow are disrupting Earth’s alliance with Heaven. The dead’re walking, and so are all sorts of other unspeakable creatures. There’s an order of knights called the Brotherhood of Light, which fights to protect people from these evils, and Gabriel is one of them. After his wife is killed by these creatures and her soul is stolen, she convinces Gabriel to go on a quest to defeat the Lords of Shadow’s three factions so that both she and the world can be saved.

As you can see from the trailer, there’s a lot of star power providing voices for the game. Patrick Stewart, who nicely narrated the trailer, is Zobek, Robert Carlyle is Gabriel, Natasha McElhone is Gabriel’s wife and Jason Isaacs also lends his voice to the game.

So, who here thinks that one of these “Lords of Shadow” could be, dramatic pause, Dracula?
