Then there are the indifferent brands. When you check abilities, while dressing the character’s, you’ll see a lot of “When your partner wears this…“ but never any specific character references.
Square Enix clearly had certain characters in mind when it came to clothing. So if you want to succeed in TWEWY, it’s best to follow SE’s lead. Dress your characters in the brands that suit them, and you can’t go wrong. Hopefully this guide will help get your TWEWY characters though any fashion emergency.
Best All Around: Unbranded or Gatito
The best all-around brand is a bit of a toss up. Both Gatito and unbranded clothes carry some pretty hefty and unexpected benefits. These items are only acquired after the game is beaten once, with the sole exception being Gatito’s Pi-Face’s Cap. The stats on Pi-Face’s Cap (I haven’t unlocked the ability) are +15 attack, +25 defense and +200 HP, with a brave requirement of only 75. No other hat can compete.
The unbranded clothes and items are quite nice, with great stats and abilities, but are only found after beating the game. They often have high brave requirements as well. The Maid Costume (made by Eri and Shiki) has a 400 brave requirement and the Sailor Suit’s 250. That isn’t to imply that Gatito clothes are easy to wear - if you want to wear the Iron Maiden’s One-piece (350 brave), Pi-Face’s Jeans (250 brave), Pi-Face’s Bandanna (350 brave) or Sis’s Pendant
(250 brave), you better stock up on BRAVE + at the pharmacy near Udagawa.
Neku’s probably the most versatile person in terms of clothing, probably because you’re stuck with him for the whole game. Despite that, Mus Rattus and Tigre Punks stand out as his brands. Don’t believe me? While traveling with Joshua, a reaper requires Neku to dress in all Mus Rattus, and then says it suits him. Also Mus has a low brave rating for most clothes, and early on is the only thing Neku can wear.
The other ideal brand for him is Tigre Punks. Slap Neku into a Biker Jacket (or Patchy Biker Jacket, either works), some Bondage Half-pants, some White Rubbersoles and Custom Waist Pack, and send him out to do some damage.
Okay, technically Neku can really wear anything. (I’m trying to get his bravery high enough to wear the Pi-Face clothes.) But don’t you think the casual Mus Rattus or punky Tigre Punks clothes suit him best? I do.
Shiki’s Brand: D&B
As if there was any question - the D&B shop in Molco even carries a Mr. Mew Quest item after you beat the game. Shiki’s a little like Neku, as there are quite a few stores with items that have Shiki-centric abilities, but D&B is where she belongs since an overwhelming amount of its items carry abilities for her. Plus the D&B clothes are girly and revealing.
Some helpful clothes from there are the Vest-Blouse Combo (Shiki HP +20), the Denim Miniskirt (+2 def for her), the Knee-high Boots (+2 attack for her) and the black bikini (three free fusion stars for her). Its a perfectly co-ordinated outfit that will let her kick butt.
Do you know what Joshua always wears in my game? A Pegasa Tweed Gentleman suit (which offers a +3 attack boost for him), Pegasa Classic Half-boots (with HP +40 for Josh), a Pegasa Royal Splendor watch (to prevent all negative stats) and, um, a Dragon Couture Yin Blazer. I’ve only just beaten the game and haven’t had a chance to revisit the Pegasa store to see if they added a matching hat.
The thing is, Pegasa is perfect for Josh. Its expensive, stylish, has great stat benefits and its clothes only offer special abilities for him. Sorry Neku, but apparently your blood isn’t blue enough to merit Pegasa abilities.
Beat’s Brand: Wild Boar
Really the only option for Beat is Wild Boar. It’s the only store that carries skate board decks after all, and the kid uses a skateboard for his attacks! Plus there are very few stores which carry clothes with abilities for Beat. It’s sad really, he’s kind of like the TWEWY adopted stepchild, who lives in the attic calling for fish-heads. A shame, since in my game he’s the strongest character (+53 attack and +33 defense while clothed, with only 85 brave).
Thankfully, Wild Boar gets him. My Beat is currently wearing the Negotiator (two free fusion stars for him), Work Coveralls (HP +70 for him), a San Francisco hat and a Pegasa Liberty Duke watch for the “All-around Upgrade III.“ My favorite characters always have to wear Pegasa watches.
Overall Best Item: Pegasa Watches
Seriously - save up and splurge on four Pegasa watches. Or invest the money to create four Royal Splendor Quest items at the Pegasa shop. During your first run it is the best accessory you can get for your characters. It’s like a Final Fantasy ribbon combined with an amazing stat booster, and it has a low brave requirement (50).
