The first entry in the Dragon Quest series for the Wii, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, has been given a North American release date of February 26, 2008 by Square Enix. The first person swordfighting game, which is a spin-off adventure of the regular Dragon Quest series, has already been given a rating of Teen by the ESRB. It will cost $49.99.
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors places the player in the role of a warrior who must protect the kingdom of Avalonia from a strange new threat. The Deathbringer, who previously savaged the kingdom, is dead and gone and all of a sudden the queen has taken up wearing masks. The lone warrior must fight through levels with a sword and magic to uncover the truth. The North American version will also feature new material, like an extra mode of play and four extra bosses.
Of course all this hype and bluster doesn’t cover up the fact that this could be another Red Steel. It is a rail-shooter with a sword, and even though artist Akira Toriyama, game creator Yuji Horii, and composer Koichi Sugiyama worked on this project, it may not be enough to save it. Sometimes all the talent in the world can’t affect replay value.
