There’s no better time to play horror games than now. Halloween is just around the bend so it’s high time we start shoving as many horror titles into our brains as physically possible. Case in point - The Suffering. The Suffering is now available through FileFront for free thanks to the United States Air Force (so expect a few ads). If that doesn’t scare you off, then brace yourself.
The Suffering was published by Midway back in 2004. You play as a man named Torque who’s sentenced to the penitentiary for allegedly killing his wife and children. If that little synopsis wasn’t enough to disturb you, then maybe fighting monsters in a place filled with homicidal maniacs will. Something particularly unnerving about the monsters is that they take on the form of the various execution methods former prisoners were subjected to. Torque uses melee weapons and guns but he can also briefly transform into a monster (or a raging lunatic) after he’s killed enough monsters.
There are a couple endings in The Suffering that depend on your decisions in parts of the game. I’m not going to spoil it for you all here. Just download the game and try not to toss the controller into your monitor.
