With the holiday season, and the obligatory vacation time and school breaks that join it, fast approaching, I’m sure a lot of people are planning ways to enjoy their unexpected hours of free time. I know I’m setting aside a game or two to play, and I’m sure others are as well. Well, Rumbic Studio has decided (very wisely, might I add) to release its casual puzzle game Lost in Reefs. I’m sure it will captivate quite a few players this December.

Lost in Reefs is, at its core, a match-3 game. However, it has different types of stategies to match, as opposed to just sliding or spinning items to make matches. You can choose to swap items, chain items together or group items together in order to get three or more items matched up and eliminated from the stage. Since there are 400 levels, and an ultimate goal of collecting items from each level so you can rebuild an underground city, it should get quite addicting.

Once again, Windows users are the winners here. Lost in Reefs only works on PCs running Windows 98 or better that also have DirectX 7.0 or better. The full version is $19.95, but there is of course a 28mb free demo as well.

I wonder if there is some sort of unwritten rule that all casual games come with a free demo. Probably is. Companies probably put the most addicting hour of gameplay into the free demo, and then just wait for the money to come rushing in.
