by Christopher Buckner on Apr 21, 2008 at 07:27 AM

dc comicsDC Comics, the world’s second largest comic book publisher. has announced that it will be publishing two more comic books based videogames this year: 2006’s game of the year, Gears of War, and the upcoming open-world action game, Prototype.

Already publishing the World of Warcraft comic under DC’s imprint company, WildStorm, Gears of War and Prototype are continuing DC’s move into the videogame industry. This week, DC also revealed its teaming with Midway Games which is publishing a Mortal Kombat vs DC title due to be released Fall 2008. Along with the still rumored DC Universe MMORPG under development with Sony, fans may get to see all of their favorite DC heroes in videogame form.

Scheduled for an October 2008 release, the Gears of War comic will be set between the first and second game, connecting the adventures of Marcus Fenix and his Delta Squad before the November 2008 release date of Gears of War 2 for Xbox 360.

The Prototype comic, which is being published by Sierra Entertainment, is expected to be available by August 2008. There are no details yet about what storyline Prototype will follow, but it is a safe bet it will deal with the game’s amnesiac anti-hero Alex Mercer, who has the superhuman ability to consume enemies and take on their abilities, memories and physical forms.
