Datel suing Microsoft over lockout of unauthorized memory cards

Datel, manufacturer of the Max Memory card that is one of the “unauthorized” memory units Microsoft recently locked out of use with the Xbox 360 console, is taking the company to court.

A federal court in San Francisco is now charged with the task of determining whether the memory card lockout is within Microsoft’s rights or constitutes unfair business practices.

Since the wheels of justice don’t always turn swiftly, I would still refrain from buying any Max Memory cards for a while. Even if Microsoft were to lose here, I’m sure an appeal would be forthcoming.

Money is not exactly an object for Microsoft, so they could theoretically keep this tied up in court until the next console generation.
