UPDATE: The time has been shortened to Noon to 2 PM. The Bat Pod will then be moved to the Showcase Cinema de Lux & IMAX movie theater in Springdale, OH, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. It will be in the lobby so you will be able to view it for free at this location. It’s a gawk-only event - no touching or sitting (on the bike, that is).
Dunno what to do this upcoming holiday weekend? Excited for the upcoming Batman movie with a grittier, even more psychotic Joker? Then head to Kings Island Amusement Park near Cincinnati (Ohio, USA) where the The Bat Pod, formerly known as the Batcycle, will be on display at the park’s main entrance Saturday July 5, 2008, from noon until 5 PM.
The Bat Pod’s appearance is, according to a corporate press release, part of a “multi-city North American Tour in support of The Dark Knight‘s July 18, 2008, release.” None of the other cities were mentioned, but you can guess it’s a strategic yet twisty path. It was recently on the Today Show
The reimagined and renamed Bat-cycle was designed by Nathan Crowley who also created the more modern Batmobile seen in Batman Begins. Six Bat Pods were created for the film and each includes the usual armor, weapons and other secret Bat Gadgets. And, yes, they really run, but you don’t get to test it. The cycle does not include handle bars and features two 508 millimeter tires and a rotating seat that keeps the caped duder upright (as upright as you can be while lying down) at all times.
Kings Island, formerly owned by Paramount, is the same park you might have seen in episodes of The Partridge Family (1972) and The Brady Bunch (1973). The park features a huge fountain and a one-third replica of the Eiffel Tower. Notable rides include Beast (wooden), Son of Beast (wooden), Vortex and Firehawk. An all-day pass to the park is $30 and, if you go, plan on staying late since the lines will be especially long for the holiday weekend.
Gamertell staff writer Mark Rollins is heading to the fifth annual Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, WA, this weekend (August 29 - 31, 2008) and will be providing regular updates…
