Coming right off of this week’s announcement regarding the closing of Games for Windows magazine, EGM/1up.com editorial director Dan “Shoe” Hsu announced he will be leaving the company on April 25, 2008. Hsu has been with the group for twelve years (minus a short stint away from the magazine/site), and will be leaving for strictly personal reasons.
From his blog post announcing the move:
“I know this sounds horribly clichéd, but I will miss my buddies most of all. There are some awesome, awesome people here at the 1UP Network…guys and girls I’ll consider my friends for the rest of my life (I don’t want to list any names here, because there are way, way too many to list). These are the people that make the content so awesome—not me. If I ever get remarried, I’m sure my wedding will look like an EGM/GFW/1UP/GameVideos reunion.”
Site director Sam Kennedy will be stepping up to the role of Editorial director of the 1up network.
Personally, I’ve been an EGM subscriber for ten years, and I’m sad to see “Shoe” go. As a longtime EGM/1up reader, I’m also a bit disturbed by the sheer number of editors who have left in the past year (lets just say its much more than the usual turnover for a big, prominent site). Best of luck to Dan, and well wishes for the health of EGM/1up.
