Dabbledoo releases Gamertell 2008 with a new design

Gamertell Logo

If you are reading this I expect that you have noticed the new look, here at Gamertell. We have been working hard the past month to roll out this new design. As we started on this design journey we set our goal to substantially increase brand association and recognition of Gamertell. We really liked the logo on the old site but the rest had become a bit blah. Some of our larger competitors has redesigned in many of the same colors we were using and part of this wireframe is reducing complexity. Given that we sought out 2-3 colors what would help increase the recognition and give the site some stand-out in the gaming world. It was only in the past week that we agreed that green and orange with black/dark accents would be the right fit.

We then set to work on the logo. As I said before, we liked the logo, but we needed to give it more impact. Once the colors were set we narrowed down our options and selected a new font and flip-flopped the controller and the site name. The final decision was to keep the logo against a black background and use both orange and green (we had considered using an orange background with only green text). From a design standpoint we believe we have significantly stepped up the branding, improved the layout, and have set Gamertell on a rapid growth trajectory.

General site improvements/changes:
The browser/categories have been reworked and moved above the main content. We also have working child level categories (with an color indication of what category you have navigated through). Though not every single category is listed, they can be accessed via the ”More »” link on the navigation bar.

New additions include a “Featured Content” area as well as “Gamertell Originals” in the second and third columns of the page. These will be two spots where you will find content that is 100% exclusive to Gamertell, whether it be product reviews, peep shows, interviews, columns, or analysis. Expect these to start populating within the next few days.

To promote the network we have redesigned our network site listings at the very top of the page, to be more sleek. We also do some cross- network promotion lower down in the third column, where we list the five most recent articles posted on Appletell and Gadgetell.

Finally, the site could not be where it is today without the help of the folks who write up our articles. We have now placed our Masthead on almost every page of the site to give these folks the recognition they deserve. We will also be adding author pages and other features to help you get to know the team better.

We are still working on a few more things (some final pages, a revised footer, and other tweaks), but that is basically it. We hope you enjoy the new look. We would love to hear what you think via the comments below (good, bad, or indifferent)…
