Shortly after The Bitbag suggested that exclusive Soul Calibur IV characters will be made more widely available, and moments after Siliconera reported that Japanese Soul Calibur IV owners will be able to purchase and download the missing Star Wars character for their game, Namco Bandai release a press release confirming that this offer will be available to North American players as well. On October 23, 2008, Japanese and North American players will be able to purchase the missing character from the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.
The price for the dlc characters have already been announced as well, so you have plenty of time to buy some point cards. Darth Vader will cost 400 Microsoft Points ($5) through Xbox Live. Yoda is similarly priced through the Playstation Network, coming in at $4.99.
This is really a smart idea, and frankly, they should do it with all games that have “console-exclusive” content or characters. Instead of making people have to choose which console to buy it for (since some have more than one), offer the option to purchase the extra stuff online. If that stuff is good enough, people will definitely pay for it.
