by PJ Hruschak on Apr 28, 2009 at 10:44 PM

gamersgate ubisoft saleAh, downloadable games. If you already embrace the relatively less pricey and Earth-freindly alternative to physical discs in a plastic shell, then you may really dig the sale at GamersGate. And, of course, we like to spread the word any time there are game sales and cheap games out there, especially in this cruddy economy.

    DONT BUY FROM GAMERSGATE!

i should have known better because when i bought universe at war from them a few months ago, i got a bad key and it took days to get that sorted… but the prices were so good i bought from them again against my better judgement.

    my experience with this sale:

bought far cry, ghost recon advanced warfigher, and ghost recon advanced warfigher 2.

downloaded GRAW first… installed, and when it asked for my key, i realized the key i was provided was wrong. wrong length, wrong format. so… no GRAW for me. but i figure, no problem, ill just email support and play something else.

so the next day i download far cry while im at work. get home, install it, run it… error: “missing dvm.dll. reinstall.” well thats just GREAT, because the downloader deleted the install files after it installed! so i have to download the 3+ gigs AGAIN! instead, i get my brother (who has FIOS) to download it for me and check the installer. he installs… sure enough, same error. the far cry install image is BROKEN. so thats two down.

and a day later, STILL no word from support. at all. so i write them AGAIN, letting them know far cry is also broken.

download GRAW2. install. asks for the key. i put the key in, and it bluescreens. wtf? first bluescreen ive ever seen on this machine… but whatever, stuff happens. so i reboot, run it again. it asks for the key. i put it in… and this is what i get:

    “T@GES Online Activation
Maximum number of activations reached. The product cannot be activated online.
Please contact Product Support in order to receive additional activations.”

un-frickin-believable. so now gamersgate is zero for three.

and STILL no contact from support. ive now opened a dispute with paypal for a refund.

caveat emptor. do business with gamersgate at your own risk.
