Games created for charitable organizations to help raise awareness and money are always a welcome sight. The latest is The Red Cross Game: Emergency Response Unit by I Sioux Game Productions and Spil Games. In order to celebrate the Dutch Red Cross’ 100th anniversary, the companies teamed up to create a Red Cross computer simulation title. While there is a free-to-play version, a portion of the the $19.99 full PC version helps support the Red Cross.
In Red Cross: ERU, you go through 11 different emergency situations. In each, there’s been some kind of devastating event, and players step in as the Red Cross, providing aid until the community and government are able to step up and handle situations. The official press release provides a list of all the actions players must accomplish, like setting up a base camp, giving out supplies, treating the sick and injured, building temporary camps for people, cleaning up the area, working with the community and sending in air units to help rescue people who are still in immediate danger.
The “demo” version of Red Cross: ERU doesn’t require any kind of download. You simply play through one of the game’s missions in your browser. You are dropped into an emergency flood situation in Mexico, and have to help the 2000 displaced and 700 injured people there for a period of time until the government and community can step in and take over.
