According to a 1up news post, Sony has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is going to be a PS3 exclusive title, and will make use of Sony’s Dualshock 3 controller. The news is coming right from the show floor at CES 2008, where the game is being demoed, though the demo itself is apparently unchanged from the version shown at September’s Tokyo Game Show.
The game is the fourth in famed designer Hideo Kojima’s popular postmodern stealth series, and will no doubt make use of the Dualshock 3 in creative ways. The announcement puts rumors of an Xbox 360 port to rest (for now…), and the game is tentatively scheduled for a second quarter 2008 release.
Many have speculated that this is the kind of AAA title Sony needs to keep the PS3 afloat after a relatively difficult first year (sales-wise), so the exclusive arrangement is a nice little coup for Sony. MGS4 just might be one of the last great third-party exclusives.
