But I DO want to be a pirate

by PJ Hruschak on May 22, 2007 at 09:31 PM

Buena Vista Pictures wants to help bring out the inner pirate in you in all of its 3D glory.

Called “Piratizing,” you upload your image and get back a 3D version of you as a pirate in your email. Sure, it’s a way to get on their mailing list and promote the third Pirates of the Caribbean film, but it should make a lot of gamers and 3D imaging junkies happy. The process was developed by Digimask, a UK based company that makes video game avatars.

It requires a trek to MySpace and a personal photo. Here’s the step-by-step process provided in the press release:

Go to http://myspace.com/AtWorldsEnd. Click Get Started and the Piratizer will walk you through 5 simple steps:

  1. Upload your photo.
  2. Check your e-mail – When your head is ready the Piratizer will let you know.
  3. Download – Click the link provided in the e-mail and your 3-D Pirate Head will download to your desktop.
  4. Customize – Add accessories to your head (hats, scars, tattoos, etc.). You can even make your head talk like a Pirate!
  5. Share – Export your head into a variety of items that you can share with friends! You can also upload your Pirate likeness into a gallery on the MySpace page and view other MySpace Pirates.

The end result is not quite as cool as it sounds but maybe you can tweak your photo to make a really good pirate. Be sure to check out the gallery linked from the MySpace page.
