Boston Anime Conference is set to impress anime lovers and gamers

Anime convention set to impress anime fanatics and gamers alikeWith only a few weeks before the big event March 21 to 23, 2008, this year’s Anime Boston already has quite a list of special guests who will be attending including voice actors Colleen Clinkenbeard, Aaron Dismuke, Todd Haberkorn, Brad Swaile and Michael Sinterniklaas.

Clinkenbeard’s talent is not limited to anime. Her voice has been featured in a few video games including as Sybil in Aeon Flux and the minions you face in Bloodryane 2. just to name a few. Swaile has also lend his voice acting talent to videogames as Amuro Ray in the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing series including Dynasty Warriors: Gundam (for the PlayStation 3) and as Dearka Elsman in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Never Ending Tomorrow.

According to the Anime Boston website this year’s musical guests are Luv and Response, MC Frontalot, The Pillows and Tokyo Pinsalocks.

But what anime event is complete without gaming sessions and a chance to play video games from Japan?

This year’s live gaming sessions will include collectible card games, collectible miniature games, board games, live-action role playing games and tabletop RPGs. Rules for the sessions can be found on Anime Boston’s website along with any fees for participants. The session games are as follows.

Collectible card game sessions include matches in:

  • Magic the Gathering CCG
  • Naruto TCG
  • Pokemon TCG
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! CCG.

Collectible miniature game session matches in:

  • Heroclix CMG
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Calling All Heroes!
  • Star Wars Pocket Models CMG
  • The Purge of Kayvaen VIII (Warhammer 40K)
  • Warhammer Fantasy/40K Open Gaming

Board and card games session include but are not limited to:

  • Setters of Catan
  • Carcosonne
  • Betrayal in the House on the Hill
  • Munchkin
  • Arkham Horror
  • Formula De
  • RoboRally
  • Shadows Over Camelot
  • Collateral Damage: The Anime Board Game Demo
  • Whack a Catgirl Card Game Demo

This year Anime Boston by Night will be divided into three sects for live-action role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade by Minds Eye Theatre. Participants can choose one of three sects that will decide the outcome of the story and characters will be drawn from popular anime. The game will actually kick off Saturday, March 22, 2008, details of the game can be found on Anime Boston’s website listed below. The sects are:

  • The Giovanni
  • The Camarilla
  • The Sabat

Table top role playing game sessions include:

  • April 1st, 2075 (Big Eyes, Small Mouth RPG)
  • D&D Game Day, 4 Months Late
  • Druid’s Gambit (D&D 3.5e)
  • Fortune’s Folly (new World of Darkness RPG)
  • House of Cards (D&D 3.5e)
  • The J’gerkin Squad and the Magnetic Prince: A Girl Genius Adventure (Big Eyes,Small Mouth RPG)
  • Return of the Enemy Ghost (BESM, 3rd edition)
  • The Sewers of Redpoint (Sewers of Redpoint indie game.system)
  • What Child Is This? (Changeling: the Lost)

So many new games to try out this year and so little time. This year’s video game room according to the Anime Boston will feature classic games as well all as all the newest games in Japan. If no one hears from me after March 23, 2008, check the game room for signs of life. See you there.

  • Darn I wish I lived in boston. The conventions here are really crappy. They have like 3 mangas and a room that can fit 5 people. -_- Congrats to the rest of the world that gets to see this convention though, it sounds good.
