My, Blockdot’s been busy. First, the company made the free, browser-based Cross Town Craze http://www.gamertell.com/gaming/comment/lego-cross-town-craze-ready-to-race/ for Lego, and now it has created a free, browser-based game called Hip Hop Honors: Drop the Beat for the VH1 2008 Hip Hop Honors award show. Its a surprisingly challenging music/memory game with the ability to submit scores to an online leaderboard.
Drop the Beat sounds deceptively simple. You click the highlighted area with your mouse. If you don’t click it in time, or you accidentally click a different area, you get a strike. If you get three strikes, its over. Apparently, I’m doing something wrong, because the highest score I could manage was 160. Drop the Beat is all about the timing, and I’m sure if you take the time to learn to play, you can end up doing really well.
The actual awards show takes place on VH1 at 10pm EST on October 6, 2008. Tracy Morgan is going to be hosting it this year. So far, 26 artists and groups are scheduled to perform, among them Cypress Hill, Naughty by Nature, Wyclef Jean, Kid Rock, Lil John, Big Boi (from Outkast), Ghostface Killah (from Wu Tang Clan), Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe and Gym Class Heroes.
