Blizzard Entertainment announces 2008 World of Warcraft Tournament
Blizzard Entertainment recently announced its 2008 World of Warcraft Arena Tournament with more than $200,000 in cash prizes.
The competition is based on World of Warcraft‘s arena system except separated from the live realms to provide a more secluded area for professional-level players to compete with their individual skills and strategy. Consisting of two rounds of regional qualifiers, the winners of the regionals will go on to compete in the live regional finals and a chance to compete in the global world championship.
By being separated, those who compete in the standard arena for in-game prizes can continue to do so while those enrolled into the tournament can compete uninterrupted. The only changes to this year’s tournament is that the tournament will be held in a 3v3 arena instead of the 5v5 held last year in 2007. Only those players that part of a team with level-70 characters and have obtained a ranking in the rated arena battles can participate. Teams can obtain a ranking by playing up to 10 matches a week to qualify.
The qualifiers for the tournament will begin in April 2008 world-wide following registration which will be announced soon. Tournament qualifiers will include players from Europe, South Korea, North America and regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Note there is a competition fee and the cost is 15 Eurodollars or 12 British pounds in Europe, 20,000 won in South Korea, $20 in North America, and NT$450 in the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau and will run for six-weeks.
An explanation of the tournament arena is already posted on the World of Warcraft website, potential competitors can check it out on the tournament link for more information. Once registration starts vendors will be available to sell in-game epic gears from full armor sets to weapons.
