Despite the fact that video games and technology have advanced to the point where they have achieved mainstream acceptance in society, he still finds reason to complain about them. His latest victim this time is Guitar Hero, one that hasn’t led to any violence or depravity.
According to Gamepolitics, O’Reilly took issue with a specific advertisement promoting Guitar Hero World Tour. It features Heidi Klum stripping down to lingerie while trying to enjoy some “old-time rock and roll.” His problem with the commercial, as noted in his broadcast, was the fact that “children could be seeing this broadcast,” and that they should avert their eyes from seeing a scantily-clad woman on television.
What was interesting about the broadcast, however, was that the women who were on the show with him were actually defending the game’s advertising method. One of them even made it clear that the game’s market is towards teenage boys.
It was an interesting turn of events for this show, which usually sees O’Reilly allowing individuals who are more apt to agree with his points than those who will be at odds with him. Individuals who have found themselves in disagreement with O’Reilly have usually been defeated in an onslaught of shouting and vitriol.
This video game defense is also refreshing in light of O’Reilly’s previous video game rant, where he blamed “the machines” including the new-at-the-time Playstation 3 for the downfall of America.
Let’s hope that as games become more popular, individuals like O’Reilly will be shown the error of his ways.
The object of O’Reilly’s rage can be seen below.
