One of the most under appreciated games in recent memory is 2003’s Beyond Good & Evil. Despite a having rabid cult following and near-universal critical acclaim, the game experienced less then stellar commercial success. Because of this, publisher Ubisoft has been reluctant to create a sequel, but it looks as though director Michel Ancel is going ahead and making one anyways.
While speaking with French magazine Jeux Video, Ancel said that the sequel has been in pre-production for almost a year. A team of 10-12 employees has been working on the game, but there’s a catch. Ubisoft has yet to give the game the go ahead for development.
So while the game is being worked on, if it fails to get that green light, it could all be for naught. Ancel did give us a tease about what he wants the game to be like, if it ends up being made. “We want to be a continuity of the first of a wide variety of stages of the game,” Ancel explained in the article, “a lot of emotions in the gameplay and engaging characters.”
With Ubisoft’s UbiDays event coming up at the end of the month, it could be the perfect time to officially announce the game. Commence finger crossing.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2’s many imperfections, like laws you might unintentionally break, a flawed recruiting system, recycled characters and new MP system have made me realize I want nothing to do with the game.
