There’s something about old advertisements that can kick in those warm and fuzzy nostalgic feelings. I guess that is why many sell for pretty pennies per page at flee markets.

In the September 1992 issue of the Betty published by Archive Comics (don’t you judge me!) there seemed to be an unusual number of video game ads. Considering most comic books are 28 or 32 pages, I cannot imagine a modern comic having 40% of its paid, non-house ads being video game ads. A few recent Green Lantern issues with 10 non-house ads and only 2 were for video games (that’s 20% for you non math types).

For those who dig game advertising nostalgia and a propensity for collecting printed materials, here are the ads in the Betty #1:

Remember that Archie Comics also made the Sonic comic series for several years, and not one of those ads were for a Sonic game. Remember to grab a few comics for me.

BTW: Don’t forget about FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! Yep, the first Saturday in May, participating stores give away specific comics for free (so don’t think you can go on a comic book free-for-all rampage). Check out the site for a list of some of the comics (Transformers!) and participating stores. Some stores only let you take one though others may let you take one of each FCBD title and even set out a pile of overstock comics.
