Bejeweled 2 for iPhone, iPod Touch drops onto Apple App Store

by Jeremy Hill on Jul 11, 2008 at 09:34 AM

With the release of Apple’s new App Store, a decent number of titles have been released to cater to our screen touching needs. PopCap Games announced (July 10, 2008) that Bejeweled 2 will join the lineup of launch titles exclusively for the iPhone and iPod Touch respectively. Bejeweled 2 is priced at $9.99 and can be downloaded straight onto the iPhone.

Bejeweled is an insanely popular puzzle game that has captured the gaming hearts of millions of players across the globe. The object of the game is to gather three or more gems of the same color in a horizontal or vertical row. As more gems fall from the top of the screen, you’re tasked with quickly figuring out which order to place the gems. Combining four or more gems in a row results in a point bonus. As you progress the game gets harder until you’re completely overwhelmed by gems of varying colors.

The iPhone and iPod Touch versions will feature the same core gameplay and will add the unique aspects of touch technology to set it apart from previous iterations. What makes this particular technology unique is its ability to determine which gem a player is actually touching even if the player isn’t using precise movements. You can even choose which direction you want to play the game. The iPhone will automatically sense whether the device is being held vertically or horizontally and will adjust the game accordingly.

Bejeweled 2 will support both the iPhone 2.0 software as well as the new iPhone 3G.
