Now that the Democratic and Republican conventions are over and it is a little more than fifty days until the next President is elected, I’m sure we could use a game that involves more personal involvement in the political machine.

That is why Stardock has recently released (and updated) Political Machine 2008, a turn-based strategy game that allows a player to run for president. There is a character creation tool that is similar to the Nintendo’s Mii construction tool or you can even play as Sen. Barack Hussein Obama II or Sen. John Sidney McCain II.  The updates add vice presidential candidates Sen. Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., and Gov. Sarah Louise Heath Palin along with “a host of other awesome new features.”

Your character has to campaign, visit states, make speeches and make and promises they don’t intend to keep. The speeches and TV interviews are not really played out but you fill in a database that focus on issues rather than content. As you win over the public, you will be on the road to Washington DC. 

A player can run against a computer or against another opponent.  All of this is packaged in a red, white and blue that is more than just obvious marketing.  This game is already on the market and appears to be doing rather well. In fact, it has an active community that discusses political issues in a non-partisan environment, an this forum already has thousands of posts. 

So, if you want more of the presidential election that you will already get whenever you turn on the television, feel free to get on aboard the Political Machine for the PC.
