Batman: Arkham Asylum sets a world record

by Danielle Riendeau on Aug 28, 2009 at 09:25 PM

Batman: Arkham AsylumJust a little while after I posted my review of Batman‘s latest adventure, I came upon this little gem. It seems that the game (which we reviewed very favorably) has set a Guiness World record for “Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever”. Wow - you can’t make this stuff up.

I guess I wasn’t the only one who fell in love with the creepy atmosphere and butt-kicking gameplay - Arkham Asylum is enjoying a global average score of 91.67. Just about every mainstream review outlet is gaga for the game - Game Informer even called it “this year’s BioShock”.

Ok, so it’s a bit of a dubious honor - superhero games don’t have the best reputation. Aside from a few cool Spiderman games (and the excellent buzz over upcoming MMO Champions Online), they’ve had a very spotty track record (Superman 64, anyone?). Still, Arkham Asylum deserves the praise - and stands as a legitimately awesome game, licensed or not. In other words - if you have even the slightest love for old Bats - go buy this puppy right now!
