Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

by Danielle Riendeau on Jul 16, 2008 at 02:40 PM

Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts
Do you enjoy 3d platformers? Are you unfazed by cute critters? Do you like a little building/creation to go with your action games? Microsoft and Rare have trotted out Rare’s upcoming Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts for the Xbox 360 this E3, and if you fit the above description, be prepared to squeal with glee. The game boasts a gorgeous (seriously) art style, a solid pedigree (the first two N64 Banjo games were excellent), and a slew of online features to distinguish it from other cutesy mascot platformers.

At it’s core, the game is still a 3d platform game - you run and jump (and stomp enemies) around colorful 3d worlds performing various tasks that further your progress in the game. Nuts and Bolts‘ twist on the formula is its contraption system - players can build their own customizable vehicles in order to solve puzzles or traverse areas, giving the game a fun DIY mechanic. The game does come with pre-loaded vehicles too, for gamers who don’t like fiddling with spare parts. There will also be Live content in the form of competitive and cooperative modes and a stop n’ swap system with the original Banjo-Kazooie, to be released on Xbox Live Arcade.

From the press release:

“ Xbox LIVE gets in on the fun. For the first time in franchise history, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is going to include competitive and cooperative multiplayer gameplay. Now players can face off head-to-head in multiple multiplayer modes or team up and play cooperatively via Xbox LIVE. And with the title’s online blueprint sharing system, players can share their designs over Xbox LIVE with friends and gamers everywhere… With the power of Xbox 360, this newly activated feature, known as Stop N Swop, connects Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts to the upcoming Xbox LIVE Arcade release of the original Banjo-Kazooie. Players accomplishments in the new game will be rewarded with extra content and features in the Xbox LIVE Arcade game, encouraging fans to dive into as much Banjo as they can get their hands on!

The original Banjo-Kazooie was one of my all time favorite 3d platform games (yes, I loved it almost as much as the revolutionary Mario 64), so I’m more than stoked to see a modern iteration. The title was certainly looking pretty hot at E3, and will be available November 2008.
