The sequel to Treasure’s excellent N64 (Japan-only) and Dreamcast shooter Bangai-O will be coming to the Japanese DS Winter 2007. According to the latest Famitsu, the frantic 2D gameplay is intact with the upper screen displaying the stage map and the lower screen displaying the game screen.
Several DS-specific enhancements were also announced, namely Wi-Fi multiplayer (in competitive and co-op flavors), and a brand new edit mode where players can create stages, game types, etc. using the stylus.
Treasure is developing the title, and ESP will do the publishing honors. So far, there’s no word on a North American release.
The first game was fantastic - a blend of serious twitch gameplay with just enough strategy to keep it involving. It also featured massive quantities of fruit, a feature sorely missing in shooters these days. Treasure would be wise to unleash it on the NA masses – and while we’re at it, they’d be wise to strike a deal with Nintendo and release obscure-yet-awesome N64 title Sin and Punishment on the Virtual Console.
