In case you weren’t already annoyed by the recent media attention spent on Falcon “Balloon Boy” Heene, HeyZap has decided to distribute an online Flash game featuring the l’il faux-lebrity’s likeness and really rub it in.
In the game you use your WASD or arrow keys to move Heene, who floating via a weather balloon, and use the mouse to aim and shoot down oncoming birds, rainbows, helicopters and other objects to collect more time and waste taxpayers money. It even has a running total of money wasted by people playing the game, er, Henne’s recent ability to get too much cable TV attention.
Bubble Boy is not a particularly great game but it does have the notoriety of being the first Ballooon Boy-related game to get attention.
Local authorities and media outlets were notified that that 6-year-old Henne was supposedly floating away, trapped inside a homemade helium balloon floating above Colorado. After landing several miles away it was discovered that not only was he not in the balloon but he was hiding in a box in his attic. Henne, told his meteorologist father during a Larry King Live interview, “You guys said we did this for the show,” when asked why he did it. Because Heene’s family was featured in 100th episode of ABC’s Wife Swap TV series in March 2009, many believe this stunt as intended to get the family back on TV (apparently any way possible).
Getting media attention for an event that was likely meant to get media attention seems strangely appropriate. It is interesting to note that it only took six hours to make the Balloon Boy game which is probably more time than Heene’s parents spent thinking about their media gobbling stunt and certainly less than the four hours the weather balloon was in flight.
As if that wasn’t enough, you can also get various T-shirts and other that represents the equation “balloon + boy = money” using vector art images, much like the game.
