Astro Boy games to be released alongside 2009 movie

by Jenni Lada on Nov 5, 2008 at 12:09 PM

Astro Boy movie 2009 posterD3 Publisher has just announced that it is going to work with Imagi Animation Studios to create video games to accompany the Q4 2009 release of the computer animated Astro Boy movie. So after you’ve seen the movie, you’ll be able to get a DS, PSP, PS2 or Wii game based on it. A plot for the games hasn’t been announced, but it will likely follow the storyline of the movie.

Sega and Hitmaker released an Astro Boy game back in 2004 that was pretty good, Astro Boy: Omega Factor. So maybe there’s hope for D3’s multiplatform Astro Boy titles. After all, we know a good Astro Boy game can be made. I guess we’ll have to see how D3 Publisher does with the Coraline games to get a hint at how its Astro Boy games will do.

As for the movie, the casting looks promising. I popped by the Internet Movie Database today (11:57am CST, November 5, 2008) and it shows Freddie Highmore as Astro Boy, with Bill Nighy (Dr. Elefun), Donald Sutherland (General Stone), Nathan Lane (Ham Egg), Nicolas Cage (Dr. Tenma) and Eugene Levy (Orrin) as members of the cast. So, at the very least, there’s a strong cast attached to the project.
